Use

The purpose of road signals is to safeguard the danger zone represented by a level crossing. The St. Andrew’s cross gives rail-bound vehicles the absolute right of way. Signalling is preformed by means of light signals with the signal lamps SP200 and SP300.
Fuction description
The roadside signals are activated via a switching device whenever a rail-bound vehicle approaches the level crossing, thus technically safeguarding to the crossing. In Germany and some other countries yellow signal lamps firstly warn road users so that they can clear the immediate danger zone. The red signal lamps are activated after 3, 4 or 5 seconds (dependent on the road velocity) and represent an absolute STOP for all road users. In many countries red flash signal lamps are used to warn road users.
Mechanical design
Dependent on the national requirements the signal lamps, the contrast shades, the St. Andrew’s cross and the pedestrian guard are mounted on a post of galvanized tubular steel placed on in a foundation of standard prefabricated concrete elements. Additionally an alarm loudspeaker or other audible signals can be mounted on the mast.
The standard signalling system is designed on a modular basis. The lens system with minimal phantom light ensures that the signal light remains clearly visible even in bright, direct sunlight. Dependent on the individual requirements the signals are available in green, yellow, red or white. The signal disk can also be fitted with arrows or pedestrian symbols if required. The signal lamps are available in two versions: SP200 and SP300.
For Germany a high-pressure signal lamp with separate main and secondary filaments is used in both versions, thus ensuring a high degree of dependability and a long service life. The standard lamps have a rating of 30W per filament at an operating voltage of 12V DC. The system automatically switches to the secondary filament if the main filament is defective. The changeover is detected as a non urgent fault. For other countries LED signals are available.
The signalling system can additionally be mounted as a side light on an existing roadside signal at junctions near the level crossing.
