Manual switching equipment

Use

Manual switching equipment can control the equipment protecting a level crossing during shunting operations or during normal passage if necessary. They either act on the existing electrical switchgear or directly control the signalling system at the level crossing. This control is effected manually with the aid of a special key. Since this is an area effecting the safety of both road and rail traffic, the special key for the various items of manual switching equipment may only be carried by duly authorized personnel.

Mechanical design

The switch elements are accommodated in an impact-proof plastic housing fitted with a hinged cover. They are wired ready for connection. The manuals switching equipment can be fitted with a feedback indicator (indicator lamp as acknowledgement signal), depending on the application concerned. The keyholes are covered by a cap to protect them against dirt and the element. The manuals witching equipment is mounted on a board which is normally secured to a prestressed concrete post beside the track or to a wall. The mechanical design as defined by VDE 0720, type of protection ll, test voltage 2.5kV, contact rating 1320VA, Type of enclosure IP 54.
